QUINCY UNIVERSITY SENIOR IS NAMED A LINCOLN STUDENT LAUREATE
The Lincoln Academy of Illinois named Quincy University senior Parker John Lymenstull, Oswego, Ill., a recipient of the prestigious Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Award for 2024.
The Lincoln Academy Student Laureate program recognizes excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities by seniors from each of Illinois’ four-year, degree-granting colleges and universities, and one student from the community colleges in Illinois. Each fall, The Lincoln Academy presents an outstanding senior from each of these institutions with the Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award.
“Thanks to the exceptional work of the Lincoln Academy, a graduating senior at Quincy University is recognized each year for outstanding academic achievement and character,” said Brian McGee, Ph.D., QU president. “We are delighted that Parker Lymenstull is this year’s Lincoln Academy honoree. Parker exemplifies all that is good about a Quincy University education.”
Lymenstull is an accounting major and communication minor at QU. He serves as a Student Ambassador and an accounting and economics tutor. Lymenstull provides play-by-play for the GLVC Sports Network for QU baseball and was on the men’s bowling team his first three years and is now their student manager. He has been president of QU’s Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Club.
“The award means the world to me,” said Lymenstull. “It represents all the hard work I have put into my schoolwork, and to be honored by QU which has given me so much is a tremendous honor I will never forget.”
This is the 50th year The Lincoln Academy has celebrated students’ excellence in leadership and service in Illinois. Each student was presented an Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award certificate, a Lincoln medallion, a challenge coin, and a $1,000 check from The Lincoln Academy, at the ceremony hosted at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel in Springfield, Ill., on November 4.
“There are too many people I would need to thank to fully show my appreciation to all those who have helped me along the way, but I need to give my parents Roger and Heather a special shoutout,” said Lymenstull. “They both have inspired me to put my best foot forward in all aspects of my life and I owe every little bit of success I have to how they raised me.”
